![]() ![]() Its a beat em up game similar to final fight, death by degrees etc. Urban Reign is one of those game that will appeal to a certain audience and was made for specific type of gamers. But don't take my word for it, look at trailers on this awesome game, put down a few dollars on this unappreciated gem, use the cheats,(yes I said it, CHEAT!!! MUAHAHAHA!!) and take time to enjoy one of the most overlooked classic arena fighting games to ever hit a gaming console. The tag team moves, being able to attack your partner's enemy while in the midst of his move(they STILL don't have that in most wrestling games yet.), awesome bone crunching sound which may not seem like much but you really feel each and every hit being dealt out which is essential in a game of this genre, albeit a very lackluster and unmemorable soundtrack. So many great things I can go on about this game. They even have a guy inspired by Tony Jaa's character from the movie The Protector(Tom Yum Goong) and he fights identical to him. There will be so much dodging and counters and wall run attacks and reversal fests going on you won't know how you went without it. It's like playing your favorite Kung-Fu movie out. But when you get great and you're fighting other people that are great, forget about it. You can dodge/counter practically everything but Special Arts moves, even juggles though with those you have to be on your A game. Back to the fighting system though, along with different styles there are dodges and counters which you initiate by timing your button presses with being attacked. Some stages in Story are unplayable in Multiplayer, which is bogus because fighting Jake in the bar stage was one of the most satisfying "OMG!!!" brawls I've ever had in any game in my life. I do admit I wish there were more multiplayer stages. Exception being now you can knock your foes through nicely destructible environments. Also added to this is weapons, in which some characters acquire certain weapons and use them in ways no other character in the roster can! One example is that the main girl in the story gets a sword and all of a sudden she fights just like Xianghua from Soul Calibur! Speaking of Namco fighters, Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law are playable fighters in this game! And don't worry about authenticity their stable moves from Tekken are mostly in tact. Some of the minor characters may share similar fighting styles to each other but have different stats nevertheless. You have 60 different characters that have unique fighting styles. Whenever Story Mode would tick me off enough(BTW I'm playing on Very Hard like a sadist), I'd just go back to multiplayer for a while. As I play, I still did the Story Mode but I switched in between Story and Multiplayer. If Story Mode was the side attraction, this game would have done much better. It completely removes Story Mode as being necessary, which it shouldn't have been in the first place. It's not anything wack like more powerful strikes or one hit knockouts, no. There are cheats to unlock everything you would unlock in Story Mode, and as someone who under normal circumstances would shun using a cheat code and grind through, those couple of cheats make this game TEN times better!! But a lot of these reviewers didn't have what we have now. But if you're playing through Story Mode, you may do what a lot of reviewers did and completely short change the game, jaded by a game which even on Normal will put you in situations where you have to fight a gang of enemies that can do what you do and in some cases better. 60 characters, Power Stone meets Tekken meets Def Jam FFNY meets WWE No Mercy-style mayhem and carnage. And it doesn't help that you have to play through it to flesh out your multiplayer experience, which is the major thing, because THAT mode is what this game is all about. ![]() If you're trying to play Story Mode to unlock stuff, this is one of those controller throwing games. One of the main problems most people have is the frustrating difficulty. I look at many reviews for this game and it is very mixed. ![]()
