The best advice is just to get it checked. They also said if someone is consuming large amounts or prolonged use of ibprofen or blood thinner type mess, it can cause these spots. Not to down play it, it can be fatal if not caught or treated. He's now 19 and is fine, thank goodness! It was told to me by the Dr's, that it's pretty much a freak type thing that attacks the platelets and is treatable. It worked, but he had to have it repeated again a couple weeks after the initial treatment because his platelet count dropped again. They treated him with a treatment called IVIGG. Normally they don't see this in infants, but it's more common in adolesence and adults. They rushed is to Seattle's Children's Hospital and by the time we got there his platletet count was below 5,000. Come to find out his platlets were around 15,000. I was freaking out! The tiny holes from the needles were bleeding uncontrolably. I had to tell them to stop because he was crying and his tears were "blood". They tried to drawl blood but with no luck. They took one look at him and said it wasn't an allergic reaction, it was petechia. I took him to the er because his nose was bloody ( mixed with mucus due to being suck) for a few hours. I stopped the mess but it just got worse, to the point were he looked like we was almost one big freckle ball. He had an war infection at the time and was on antibiotics and the Dr miss diagnosed him, saying the spots were an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. My son had the petechia spots all over his body when he was a few days aways from his 1st birthday. My dermatologist said it's nothing to worry about. I have the same red spots through out my body and all my blood work/ blood levels are fine.
